Our approach is systemic, our vision is long-term. Why? Believing in the possibility and agency of creating livable, sustainable futures, we work to change the rules of the game, not to play the game. We understand that meaningful transformation originates in challenging traditional social and economic structures. However, to sustainably modify these systems, we need profound insights and a clear vision of the future(s) we want. That's why, at the Lab, futures thinking seamlessly integrates with systems thinking.
We leverage social design to creatively forge sustainable pathways. Why? Social design is fundamentally about aligning humans with their environment, ranging from architecture to everyday objects. At its core, social design is systemic, possessing the ability to forge new pathways, whether beneficial or detrimental. Thus, we view social design as one of the most underappreciated tools for sustainability in the multilateral arena, uniquely merging our objectives at the Lab. Social design combines scientific understanding of human-environment interactions with creative solutions to enhance this relationship. This is why it is a central instrument of the Beyond Lab.
We connect and collaborate with people to create meaningful impact. Why? Our mission is centered on serving and representing people. While sustainability often focuses on climate change and environmental issues, it's crucial to remember these challenges are human made. Therefore, it's essential to involve a broad spectrum of individuals in crafting solutions that mirror the rich diversity of human experiences and insights.
Additionally, Geneva offers a unique international and expert ecosystem, which we have collaborated with since 2017. This network embodies the collective wisdom of the Lab. Our ability to work with, connect, and collaborate across different types of actors in the Geneva ecosystem remains an important characteristic of the Lab's identity. Our goal is to further enrich this community by embracing a wider array of voices, enhancing the diversity and depth of our collaborative efforts.
